For his time spent in the Navy, Zinke received two Bronze Stars, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, and an Army Commendation Medal.

In 2005, Zinke decided to leave the Navy and spent his time pursuing new business ventures. He first formed Continental Divide International, which is a property management and business development consulting company. Zinke put his family members as officers of the company. After less than a decade of operating the business, Ryan stepped down and passed the business to his family. He continues to be part of the business through an advisory role.

In 2009, he formed another company, On Point Montana, which is a consulting firm. Zinke has also served on the board of the oil pipeline company QS Energy Inc (OTCMKTS:QSEP), which was previously named Save the World Air.

Zinke decided to make another change in his life by serving the people of America once again, but this time as a politician. In 2008, he was elected to the Montana Senate for representing the city of Whitefish. He was in this position from 2009 to 2013. During his time on the senate he was selected as chair of the Senate Education Committee and was part of the Senate Finance and Claims Committee.

In 2014, Zinke decided to run for Montana’s At-Large Congressional District, which he eventually ended up winning. He was in this position from 2015 to 2017.

When Donald Trump became the President-elect, he got straight to work forming his team. After a month of being President-elect, Trump nominated Ryan Zinke to the position of United States Secretary of the Interior. Zinke was sworn in on March 1, 2017, as the 52nd United States Secretary of the Interior and is responsible for managing most of the federal land and natural resources in the country.

#4. Ryan Zinke Puerto Rico Controversy

August and September of this year saw many hurricanes in the Caribbean and in the Southern United States; it was time to rebuild the country.

One of Zinke’s responsibilities is to fix the power generation problem in Puerto Rico. He found a company to complete the job and get Puerto Rico back to normal, but there are a lot of red flags in the deal.

Zinke awarded a $300.0 million contract to Whitefish Energy Holdings LLC. The first red flag is that the company is from his hometown. This could be a coincidence. However, when looking through the deal, there are a few conflict-of-interest issues. The company is only two years old and has only two employees. Zinke knows the owner personally and had his own son working for there as a summer employee.

There are many questions being asked because the company has not come anywhere near a contract this large before. Many politicians, including the public, are asking why a more experienced company with a proven track record was not chosen instead. Both Zinke and Whitefish Energy have come out and said that there was no wrongdoing in the deal that was signed.

However, lawmakers are looking into the matter. There could be changes that occur once the investigation is complete, such as more changes occurring within the Trump administration, in regards to individuals leaving or joining the team.
